Manteo is a different kind of Outer Banks town. Built on Roanoke Island, it has a year-round community character, a historic downtown, and a mix of residential property types you don't see in the beach towns to the north.
Manteo and the rest of Roanoke Island have a history that predates most of what exists elsewhere on the Outer Banks. Some residential properties here reflect architectural decisions made generations ago, and renovating them well requires sensitivity to that context.
Manteo sits on the sound rather than the ocean, which changes the coastal exposure profile. Wind is still a major design factor (the town is in Wind Zone 3), but salt spray is less severe than on the oceanfront beach towns.
Most of our Manteo work is for year-round residents doing whole-house renovations, kitchen and bath remodels, additions, or systems upgrades. Our planning accounts for clients living through the work.
Do you work on historic Manteo homes?
Yes. Historic district work requires extra planning around materials, finishes, and any exterior changes, but it's work we enjoy.
How does the drive from Kill Devil Hills affect scheduling?
Manteo is about 20 minutes from our base in Kill Devil Hills, so it's well within our regular service range with no impact on scheduling.
