Exterior Siding, Decking & Outdoor Construction

The exterior of an Outer Banks home takes more weather punishment than almost any home in North Carolina. Salt-laden wind, hurricane gusts, UV, and constant humidity strip cheap materials in just a few seasons. We handle siding, decking, exterior painting, patios, and outdoor structural work using materials and methods that hold up.

Exterior Siding Installation

Fiber cement and engineered wood siding are the most common materials we install on the OBX because they handle salt exposure, hurricane wind, and moisture better than traditional wood. All siding installations include house wrap, flashing, and corrosion-resistant fasteners throughout.

Deck and Porch Construction

Decks are a major part of OBX living. We build new decks, replace failed decks, and add screened porches and covered outdoor spaces. We engineer footings and posts for hurricane wind uplift, especially on elevated decks attached to flood-zone homes.

Exterior Painting and Finish Work

Painting a coastal home requires the right prep and the right product. We use marine-grade primers and elastomeric top coats designed for salt and UV exposure. Surface prep is what separates a paint job that lasts five years from one that fails in two.

Exterior Structural Repairs

Hurricane damage, hidden rot, deck failure, soft soffit boards, and corroded fasteners are all common on aging OBX homes. We do structural exterior repairs including header replacement, sheathing replacement, soffit and fascia rebuilds.

Coordinated with Outdoor Living Builds

A lot of exterior projects naturally extend into outdoor kitchens, pergolas, and full outdoor living areas. We handle both, and combining them into a single project usually saves money and reduces site disruption. See our outdoor kitchens and living spaces page for more on those builds.

Common Questions

What siding holds up best on the Outer Banks?

Fiber cement is our most common recommendation: it handles salt, fire, and impact well, and it accepts paint reliably. Engineered wood is a strong second choice.

How long does a deck last on the Outer Banks?

Composite decking typically lasts 25 to 30 years on the OBX with proper installation. Pressure-treated pine decks last 10 to 15 years.
